The difference between ordinary network cables and industrial network cables

Updated: May 25

CAT 5e network cables are as crucial as standard cables in home networks. Specifically, this type of network cable is generally only suitable for daily use at home because of its materials. If you switch to the industrial field, changes in the surrounding use environment will bring about many unexpected reasons, which may lead to poor connections or other problems.

In the Ethernet connection in the industrial field, there are network cables for different usage environments, such as shielded or unshielded network cables. There are many types according to the cable material. Here is a brief introduction based on the application environment that needs to be solved in the industrial field. Commonly used industrial-grade Cat 5e network cables:

Cat5e, ultra-flexible PUR jacket, double shielded, 4 pairs of 26 AWG stranded conductors

Facing interference sources in the industrial field, the aluminum foil/braided double shielding structure and the PUR sheath that can resist ultraviolet radiation and oil lubricants are highly suitable for industrial Ethernet applications with strong EMI/RFI interference.

CAT6 outdoor waterproofing with anti-UV sheath, CAT 5e network cable

This series of network cables uses PE or TPE sheaths with moisture-proof and UV-resistant properties, which can protect outdoor wiring to prevent damage due to moisture and sunlight. Some models even allow direct burial, and some come in glueless versions suitable for cell tower cabling. In addition, most models feature solid conductors that are easily terminated into IDC and snap-in connectors, making them ideal for PoE powering.

The unique ultra-high flexibility CAT 6A shielded wire is beyond the capabilities of ordinary cables and can withstand harsh usage conditions. It does not break down when exposed to oil lubricants, making it suitable for use in robot control systems on the factory floor. After testing, this series of cables can also withstand 10 million bends.
